Ayrshire College has buried a time capsule outside the main entrance of the new Kilmarnock Campus on Hill Street. It was filled with items provided by college staff and students as well as members of the local community.
It was buried at the new building to preserve this moment in time for future generations.
Included in the time capsule is a commemorative book called ‘A Look Back at 2015’, a collaborative publication between the College’s Marketing Team and Social Science students.
The book reflects fashion trends, popular films, music artists, books, and celebrities of the era prior to the opening of the new campus. Old prospectuses and Kilmarnock Standards are other items placed within the time capsule, as was a price list for everyday student essentials. Also included in the book are student interviews describing what it was like to be a student in 2015-16 and what they were most looking forward to about the new campus.
Heather Dunk, principal, said: “The time capsule will preserve important memories spanning the time period that the Kilmarnock Campus was built.
“Our students were keen to give future generations an insight into what life as a student was like in 2015/16. The commemorative book can be viewed on the Ayrshire College website.”
The new Kilmarnock Campus officially opens to students on October 24, with a ‘community day’ on November 19 where members of the public will be able to have a look around and try out some of the facilities.
