Community Choices Fund 2017/18
After our successful pilot, the Kilmarnock Town Centre Partnership are delighted to announce that they have been successful in securing £30,000 from the Community Choices Fund 2017/18.
The Celebrate Kilmarnock Participatory Budgeting pilot event 2016, engaged over 100 people in a local decision making process that saw £10,000 of public money being allocated between 12 community projects, with some fantastic work being delivered in our local communities. The positive experience of delivering the pilot, provided the Partnership with the appetite and confidence to express an interest in delivering their own events.
The Partnership welcome the opportunity to build on the participatory approach and make available the £30,000 to support local people and communities take forward their own ambitions. The Partnership’s intention, is to hold two participatory budgeting events that will adopt a themed approach and reflect the priorities of the Celebrate Kilmarnock Action Plan. More detail to follow.
Community Choices supports one of the principles of Public Sector Reform, that people should have equal opportunity to participate and have their own voices heard in decisions shaping their community. It also compliments the Scottish Government’s aspirations for the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
